When someone else is hurting, we wrestle with the theoretic "problem of evil." We ask, "why does a good God allow bad things happen to good people?" However, when we are one who is suffering, the question often changes. We no longer are as interested in a philosophical argument. Our pain pushes us to ask much more personal questions. What we really want to know is :  Does God really care   when bad things happen to me?  Does He still love me?  Does He even see   what I am going through?  Has God somehow forgotten me?  Does He have any idea how much I hurt? 젊은이들이 가정에서 아무도 자신들의 문제에 관심 갖지 않아 방황할 때 사람들은 나에게 왜 당신은 본국을 떠나 오지를 선택했는지 궁금해 한다. 내가 떠난 이유를 말하겠다. 본국에 남아있는 그 젊은이들은 하나님 말씀을 자신의 언어로 공부하고, 듣고, 이해할 수 있는 모든 기회를 갖고 있지만 이 인디안들은  아무런 기회가 없다. 나는 통나무 두 개로 십자가를 만들어서 그 위에 누운 후 사람을 십자가에 못박는 것이 어떤 것인지 인디안들에게 보여주었다. 이곳(인디언들)에서 많은 무시함이 있고 그곳(본국)에 많은 지식과 기회들이 있을 때  하나님께서 나를 이곳에 보내신 이유를 내 마음에 분명히 알게 된다. 자신의 문제로 울고있는 그 본국의 젊은이들은 심판 날에 깨어나서 두려워 하는 인디안들보다 좋지 못한 최후를 맞게 될 것이다.  왜냐하면 그런 기록된 말씀을 들어보지도 못한 사람들이 있는 반면 성경을 가지고도 실증을 냈기 때문이다. - Jim Elliot
